I think that Animal Farm does have an implied reader, because it contains a lot of language devices that orwell use which force the reader to thinks deeper and understand the metaphors of the book, this often is related to older, wiser people and therefore i think the implied reader is of an older person. It also relies on the reader to know about politics and the events that were happening at the time.

  1. Hello Tom,

I’m glad to see you’re using your blog. This is a difficult concept: does the author decide the reader because of language devices and structures that they choose to use OR do we interpret meaning based on the reader’s past experience and practises of reading? I think you have given this a good attempt and I am pleased to see your skills of analysis developing.

Next time: try to use a supporting quotation from the novel to support your understanding of the implied reader.

    Mr North
